Carfax to Sponsor Driver John Andretti in NASCAR Sprint Cup Carfax 400

CENTREVILLE, VA UNITED STATES

BROOKLYN, Mich., Aug. 13 /PRNewswire/ -- Carfax today announced it will sponsor the No. 34 Front Row Motorsports Chevrolet and driver John Andretti for the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series CARFAX 400 at Michigan International Speedway on Sunday, Aug. 16.

The No. 34 Carfax Chevrolet will make its debut at MIS during the first-ever 'Show Me the CARFAX Race Weekend'.

Andretti said, "I'm excited to have the Carfax brand on board for the CARFAX 400 Sprint Cup race and feel the team is primed for some real up-front excitement. Carfax offers a great service to its customers and we want that same service represented on the track as well."

Andretti enters the CARFAX 400 race with a guaranteed starting position. Besides having wins in NASCAR's top series, John has won in the now defunct CART series and competed in the IRL and NHRA showing his talent to be a "pure racer". John most recently competed in the 2009 Indy 500 race with Richard Petty as team owner, finishing 19(th).

"We're proud to support John Andretti and the No. 34 Carfax Chevrolet," said Larry Gamache, communications director at Carfax. "If you're looking for a used car, a GM Certified Pre Owned vehicle is a great choice. Free Carfax Vehicle History Reports are available from every GM dealer. The Carfax Chevrolet represents a great partnership between GM and Carfax."

The NASCAR Sprint Cup Series CARFAX 400 will be broadcast on ESPN with television coverage beginning at 1:30 pm EST and radio coverage provided by the Motor Racing Network.

Bubble Breakdown: Speed Slowly Chipping Away At Andretti's Lead

Tracking The Top 35 In Owner Points · Mike Ravesi · Tuesday August 11, 2009

excerpt

Focusing on the Bubble:

Scott Speed got some track time on Saturday in the Nationwide race, finishing 10th, and parlayed it into a decent 22nd place finish in his first trip to Watkins Glen in the Cup series. Speed started 26th and stayed smooth all afternoon, even staying out during green flag stops to lead a lap and pick up five bonus points as Red Bull Racing continues to chase down Front Row’s No. 34 driven by John Andretti. Speed actually ran a better race than his finish showed, but had brake problems late in the event and lost several spots. Andretti, on the other hand, once again started in the mid-30’s, passed the cars that had problems or failed to finish, and posted a 30th-place run after going behind the wall with mechanical problems. Following that lackluster performance, it allowed Speed to again cut into Andretti’s hold on the 35th spot in the owner standings, which is now down to just 142 markers. And while Andretti isn’t in any immediate danger, the team may soon be looking over their shoulder as their lead dwindles.

A memorable '500' for another Andretti

Mario's nephew, John Andretti, celebrates his 500th career start today at Pocono.

By Keith Groller | OF THE MORNING CALL
August 2, 2009

John Andretti said that in his famous racing family, ''they'll kick you out if you don't want to drive a racecar.''

Fortunately, John, the nephew of Mario Andretti and cousin of Michael Andretti, was never in danger of being disowned.

Like the rest of his clan, Andretti fell in love with the roar of the engines, the smell of hot rubber and all of the grit and grime of the garage at an early age.

Even now, at age 46, his passion for getting behind the wheel hasn't diminished.

In fact, today's Sunoco Red Cross Pennsylvania 500 at Pocono Raceway will mark Andretti's 500th professional oval start.

Andretti, in his 22nd year, will be making his 377th NASCAR Sprint Cup start to go with 37 green flags in the Nationwide Series, six in the Camping World Series, 73 in the defunct CART Series and seven in the IRL Indy Car Series.
